Jonathan

Born in a remote New Zealand farming rurality, Jonathan rose to local prominence as the driver of Wellington’s iconic funicular cable car, but has since been working in the suit-and-tie world of not-for-profit promotion and publishing.

An idealistic teenager (blame the syrupy insubordination of late-90s pop-punk), Jonathan chose to spend four years as a Media Studies, Philosophy and Political Science postgraduate in Wellington, questioning cultural construction, metaphysics and the military-industrial complex.

Jaded with the pessimistic nature of cultural studies, he made his peace with the world by choosing to accept the marriage of capitalism and culture, nu and metal, Jolie and Pitt, and, essentially, not let stuff bother him so much.

Rediscovering the pleasures of his youth, Jonathan has boyishly embraced the mediums of mass-entertainment oft-criticised for their negative cultural capital—mostly pro sports, pop songs and Sylvester Stallone films.

The world meets nobody halfway.
